How to Remove and Replace your Suzuki Swift Alternator.

Welcome to Another Parts Factory DIY Installation Manual!

Having issues with Suzuki Swift Wont Start? In this manual, we will be looking at the step-by-step procedure on how to remove and replace a Suzuki Swift Alternator, but before we move further, let us dive into the reasons we need to replace the Suzuki Swift Alternator.

What are the symptoms of Suzuki Swift Alternator Not Charging?

A bad Suzuki Swift alternator can result in several symptoms in the vehicle such as the Check engine and battery light staying on, the vehicle showing code P0562Β  or any related alternator codes when scanned with an obd ii scanner, Suzuki Swift Alternator overcharging, battery always running too low due to the Suzuki Swift alternator not charging, this can as well lead to situations where the Suzuki Swift won’t start, in most cases the battery is always too low to turn over the starter motor. If any of the above symptoms erupt on the Suzuki Swift, it might be the right time to try on a new Suzuki Swift Alternator.

How do I distinguish between a bad battery and a Suzuki Swift alternator not charging?

To tell the difference between a bad battery and a Suzuki Swift Alternator Not Charging a multimeter is required,

  • Using the DC voltage meter of the multimeter, multimeter with the engine off, touch the positive and negative battery terminal with the appropriate multimeter probe.
  • The reading should be about 12V for a good battery. It can be below 10 volts for a battery not charging adequately.
  • With the multimeter Probes still on the battery terminals, start the engine and observe the multimeter voltage rise
  • With Engine Running Voltage should now be at about 13.5-15 volt if the battery voltage keeps dropping instead of r,ising, it shows the Suzuki Swift alternator not charging the battery and the Suzuki Swift won’t start after a while unless a new battery is installed or battery is jumped.
  • If it shows the voltage rise while the engine is running but the battery voltage drops after engine is turned off, this shows the battery is not retaining its charge.

Where can I buy a Suzuki Swift alternator?

If you are still in the market to buy a Suzuki Swift Alternator, the first thing you should check is if your alternator has a three pin plug which is kind of oval or a four pin plug which is square. We need to unfasten the alternator from the Engine to do this follow the step below, Step1:

  1. Open up the car bonnet (hood) to gain access to the car engine.Β
  2. Disconnect the battery positive terminal with a 10mm wrench. This will make theΒ Suzuki Swift Wont Start.Β
  3. Loosen the front right tire wheel nuts a bit while the vehicle is on the floor
  4. Chock the rear left tire to prevent the vehicle from rolling away while it is been jacked.

  1. Jack the car up, set the jack stand under the car and ensure it is at a suitable position.
  2. Jack down the car gently till the car sits firmly on the jack stand, loose completely all the right front wheel tire nuts then remove the tire. Do not worry if theΒ Suzuki Swift Wont Start.Β
  3. Loosen the top mounting bolt of the alternator because it is directly connected to the tensioner for the belt, the alternator can’t be pulled out until the belt is loosen up using a 12mm(note it could be very tight)

See image below for better understanding: Red dot shows the location of the alternator position.

  1. Loosen the 10mm nut holding the positive terminals to the alternator, pull it off, then pull the electrical plug socket wire out of the alternator.

See figure 1 for the location of the 10mm nut and electrical plug on the alternator

  1. Check under the car through the front right wheel space, Loosen the alien bolt that fasten the alternator to the engine, then unfasten the two 12mm to remove the bracket off the engine.Β

  1. Pull the fan belt off the alternator Pulley, then unfasten the two 12mm bolt to remove the bracket off the engine.
  2. At this stage the alternator should have fallen from its space but stuck and can’t be removed

Now, we need to remove the stuck alternator, to do this follow the step below : Step 2

  1. Place the jack at a suitable point on the engine sump( this could be at the edges of the sump) , you can place a flat plank of wood at the top of the Jack to prevent the jack from damaging the sump

Β

  1. Loosen all bolts and nuts of the front right engine seat mount
  2. Jack the engine up slowly until the engine seat mount is easy to be removed completely
  3. After removing the Engine seat mount completely away from the Engine, jack down the engine slowly.
  4. Now the Engine should be leaning forward, creating space to fully remove the stuck alternator
  5. Remove the alternator through the space at the right front wheel. This component cause the Suzuki Swift Wont Start issue.Β

Replacing the Suzuki Swift Alternator Not Charging: Step 3

Β

  1. Put back the alternator through the space at the right front wheel: See FIGURE 12
  2. Jack the engine up slowly until the engine is back to its proper position see FIGURE 10
  3. Place back the engine seat mount on the rubber mount, jack up the engine slowly and watch as it gets inclined by itself popping back to the correct position: See FIGURE 9 and FIGURE 8b
  4. Try Rocking the engine back and forth using an iron bar until the bolts are fasten through the holes of the mount to the engine

See image below for better understanding.Β  Β  Β  Β

  1. Fasten the nut on the rubber mount: See FIGURE 8a
  2. Pick up the alternator, set it in its position through the space at the right front wheel, put the allen bolt back in to mount the alternator: see FIGURE 5b and FIGURE 5c
  3. Put back the fan belt on the alternator pulley
  4. Stick a little bar in the hole space between the alternator and the engine using it to align the top bolt with the alternator, ensure the fan belt is not slack
